06/02/09 New Aubrey O'Day Blog "Aubrey on DK"

AUBREY on DK
..............Come one, come all ....

It s a new year so as my dear friend Miss
Woods says, let s find something new to talk about! My theme this year; let
go of the past, and focus on all of the beautiful things that are about to fill
our future! I know most of you find that relevant to me in relation to my
departure from dear ol DK. I ve stayed away from directly responding or
commenting on the negativity, or misguided views and judgments that have unfortunately
been the voice of summarizing Danity Kane. But, since I ve launched a new
myspace, and have a new theme of the year its only fair to finally put my
thoughts of DK to rest. ....

For those of you who care, Danity Kane was
a beautiful experience, filled with all of life s wonderful ups and downs, and
I will forever be blessed to have had that experience with none other than
DREA, DAWN, Shan, and D. Each one of those girls is a talent to be
reckoned with and beyond pure talent which I hands down experienced on a daily
basis from each girl, each girl really did want to be a role model and change
the world in their own little way and that s what made us real, what made us
the truth, what made us something to believe in, and that inner desire on all
of our parts has not changed you may be seeing expression of emotions
succeeding expression of actual reality, but that does not change the reality
that ever girl in this group had a dream, and we fought long and hard to see it
become reality. There is no rulebook to life, and how to handle your
dreams once you get them. We are NOT a sad story of lose, betrayal, and
something to teach you what not to do next time we are a story of courage,
determination, fearlessness, and at the end of the day, real emotion. We
made not have given the world the answer to how to make different types of
women unite as one for eternity but we wanted to try and that s more than most
do! ....

That all said, lets support the future of
us all, and forgive the negativity and lost emotions. Life is to be
enjoyed and cherished, and experience is something we should all be thankful
for, not look at in regret. We all have lost jobs, suffered bad
relationships, felt suffocated, unappreciated, sick of giving in, and
determined to take a stand whether anyone is behind us or not SO really, like
we always said we were never any different than anyone else and we loved
that! ....

THUS, My first blog! One of many to come,
I love you all, stay happy, its all we have! ....

AUBREY ....

P.S. cop the playboy in stored Feb.
13th, its only partial nudity and one of the most beautiful works I ve created
thus far! Part of me finally letting it all go! ....

P.P.S. Remember guys It s not over when you lose, it s over
when you quit!

29/01/09 D.Woods Blog "My Dungeon Shook"

Hello all...
I wanted to share with you all what im going through because, unfortunately, im not the only one who may be feeling this way. Im sure in whatever city you live in the evening news is full of depressing and disturbing stories. A child missing, a fire, a robbery or homicide. We watch the news and if we even listen to it, we may say "yo thats crazy" then go on about our business. But last Saturday's breaking news story in Atlanta, where I live, left me in disbelief calling friends and checking sources.
Adair Freeman, the 19 year old son of Russell Freeman, was shot multiple times and killed outside the recording studio his father owns. He was making the short walk that I and many of my colleagues take to the gas station to pick up whatever we need, drinks, snacks, to stop at the atm. Adair happened to be picking up a bag of ice, and it is ironic that it was the "ice" around his neck that he was robbed and killed for.
While I didn’t know Adair very well, I know his father. I frequent the studio quite often to either to work on my music or visit other people's sessions. I always would speak and joke with Adair in the front lounge when I wasn’t in the studio working. It really hurts me to know that someone I had even one conversation with, and that was so young, fell victim to such a senseless act. I cant help but imagine the family and his father's reaction when he walked outside to find his son, who's almost a spitting imagine, laying on the ground.
Im even more hurt to think of the potential this young man had to developed his talents and ideas or to make a difference in lives or this world, now gone. As I mentally prepare myself to attend my second funeral in 6 months of a young Black man, 18-25, tomorrow, I see the statistics adding up. I wanna slam the breaks and say "yo! this shit is crazy!!! now how do we change it?"
Writer James Baldwin dedicated a letter to his nephew called "My Dungeon Shook" on the 100th anniversary of emancipation (which would be 1863-1963, we aint been free that long yall). Baldwin wanted to prepare his 15-year-old nephew for what this world had in mind for Black men at that time, and still to this day. It was almost like he wanted to shake some sense into his nephew; you can hear how urgent it is for his point to get across yet he doesn’t want to discourage the young man. I encourage you all to look up this essay and read it to as many people as you can, matter a fact, I will include an excerpt for you to get you guys open a little bit if you promise me you go read the whole thing, promise? Stay tuned...

I hung out with some friends of mine and their 5-year-old boy. Now I know what they mean when they say kids shouldn’t be around for grown folks business, cuz this little boy was all in the business. But the one thing I could not be mad at is the ideas this child was starting to form about his self and the world. He said "I’m gonna vote for Obama!" when we told him that Obama probably wont be able to run for president by the time he can vote he said "Obama can vote for me then, I’m gonna be president". I almost cried yall. Please keep our young black men off the endangered species list and give them more options than robbing people of their possessions and their lives.
As I promised here is an excerpt from James Baldwin's essay "My Dungeon Shook" found in his book "The Fire Next Time"

...The limits of your ambition were, thus, expected to be set forever. You were born into a society which spelled out with brutal clarity, and in as many ways possible, that you were a worthless human being. You were not expected to asipre to exellence: you were expected to make peace with mediocrity. Wherever you have turned, James, in your short time on this earth, you have been told where you could go and what you could do (and how you could do it) and where you could live and who you could marry...Know whence you came. if you know whence you came, there is really no limit to where you can go...I said that it was intended that you perish in the ghetto, perish by never being allowed to go behind the white man's definitions, by never being allowed to spell your proper name. You have, and many of us have, defeated this intention; and, by terrible law, a terrible paradox, those innocents who believed that your imprisonment made them safe are losing their grasp of reality...we can make America what America must become. It will be hard, James, but you come from a sturdy, peasant stock, men you picked cotton and dammed rivers and built railroads, and, in the teeth of the most terrifying odds, achieved an unassailable and monumental dignity. You come from a long line of great poets, some of the greatest poets since Homer. One of them said "The very time I thought I was lost, My Dungeon Shook and my chains fell off."

DISHIN IT WITH DAWN RICHARD OF 'DANITY KANE'

By Jill Joseph-Johnson

DAWN Angeliqué Richard's big break came in 2005, when DAWN auditioned for the MTV show Making the Band 3 in Orlando, where she was chosen to compete for a spot in Diddy 's future girl-group. She beat out numerous contestants to secure herself a spot, along with AUBREY O'Day , AUNDREA Fimbres , Wanita Woodgette (now known as " D. Woods "), and SHANNON Bex in the newly formed musical group, which would soon be called Danity Kane.

JJ: What inspired you to become a singer/songwriter?

DR: You know my father was a musician and got his Masters in music and he had been teaching for so long that I guess it was just in my blood. Once I became old enough I began singing in the choir and I just fell in love with music. I fell in love with the feeling it gave me.

JJ: What was it like to quickly go from a candidate for ‘Making the Band' to a member of a platinum selling group?

DR: Wow! It was everything that you could expect it to be. It was a worldwide. Everything happened so quickly. It was really amazing. It was like a dream come true. You know one minute you're watching TV. and then the next you're on it. It was crazy!

JJ: What is the most difficult part about being in Danity Kane?

DR: I don't think it was difficult to be a part of the group I think the most difficult thing was dealing with all the shadiness in the industry. You know it's very easy to get lost or to be taken advantage of if you don't know the business. That was what really took me by surprise. You think that it's all about talent and music but there are a lot of politics involved.

JJ: Since the finale of ‘Making the Band' many of your fans have been left to wonder what's really happened to ‘Danity Kane'. Since the reunion have you spoken with any of the remaining group members?

DR: Well, Aundréa came back for the next season but as far as everyone else no I haven't spoken with anyone. However, I wish them all well.

JJ: Do you have any hard feeling towards anyone in the group?

DR: No, no, not at all. If they ever want to talk, I'm here.

JJ: What should we expect from the remaining members of Danity Kane for next season?

DR: You're going to see us try to put the pieces back together. You're going to see us trying to save whatever is left our fan base. I believe that we owe it to our fans to give them some kind of closure or give them a new beginning. I really think that this will be the biggest thing that we will struggle with during the new season.

You know we had the fame, we had the platinum status and we lost it, and it wasn't by our choice. It was forced upon us. So now you're going to see us just try to make it out of our situation.

JJ: Would you be interested in becoming a solo artist?

DR: I never would say never to anything. I just want to be a part of music. I want to touch people and if that's God's will in my life then fine.

JJ: So I hear you've recently launched your own comic book, what inspired you to begin this venture?

DR: Yes, that's my baby. It's amazing! It's been my dream since high school. The character and the group were named after this picture that I drew in high school.

When in school I was asked by a teacher to draw a character that would represent the person that I would be if I had an opportunity to be someone else.

While in school I was very insecure and my outlet use to be performing so I build this whole character around my stage persona. She's just amazing! It's the dopest thing I've ever done beside music. She very much a cross between Sex & the City meets Sin City. It's amazing!

JJ: What's the concept of Danity Kane comics?

DR: Well, it's like Sex & the City meets Sin City. It's about a singer who's come to save the planet. She's called on to protect and save the people of the world from the evil villain who just happens to be a CEO of a record label. (Laughs) It's really deep and there are a lot of twists and turns. People should definitely go to http://www.danitykanecomics.com to check it out and find out more about it. They should also look out for the soundtrack to the comic book that comes out in March of 2009. I'm very proud of it.

JJ: Could you name some artists that you'd would love to work with, but haven't so far?

DR: I would love to work with Adele. I would also love to work with Image in Heat, she's amazing. Brandy is my all time favorite singer. I would love to vocally just be in her presence. Then there are other artists who have helped to pave the way like John Mayer, Alicia Keys, and John Legend.

JJ: Can you name some of the other artist you've written songs for?

DR: Yeah, right now I'm working with Puff and Cassie. I have some songs that I've written for her album. I've also been working with Paula Deanda trying to get her some music. Right now, the sky is the limit. You know like I said the industry is very political. I'm really trying to encourage people to work with some of the “small fries” in the industry because a lot of us have so much to offer. I think people forget that the big names were once in our position. I just feel like we deserve a chance.

JJ: How would you like to see your career blossom as a singer/writer/producer?

DR: I want to be respected in this industry. I want people to see that I work extremely hard at what I do and to be encouraged and excited to make them want to work with me. I want to have Grammy's both as a writter and as a performer. My dream would be that when people speak my name that they speak of me as an icon. I want to be known as a pioneer of music so I plan to work extremely hard to accomplish that.

JJ: So tells get personal for a moment, how is Q?

DR: He's amazing! (Laughs)

JJ: How have you two been able to maintain such a success relationship in this industry?

DR: It's really hard but at the end of the day honestly I try not to sweat the small stuff. I'm more private than he is. Sometimes he likes to shout things from the mountain tops I understand that. (Laugh) It's difficult because were so out in the open that it will mess up everything but he's just so great that those things don't even matter.

He gives me all the energy that I need and deserve.

JJ: What's next for ‘Danity Kane'?

DR: That's a good question. In my mind I think we can always do something great together but I will say that you can't ask one person when we're a group. You know everybody's got to be willing and that's on everyone else. If you ask me, I'm ready and able whenever you need me. All I can do is be there.

JJ: DAWN, thank you so much for doing this speaking with IBH Magazine. I wish you and the group much success and hope that everything works out for all of you.

DR: Thanks, I really appreciate that.

29/01/09 Danity Kane Have Split Up, Dawn Richard Says (MTV article)

Danity Kane Have Split Up, DAWN Richard Says
'It's devastating for me,' Richard says of the 'Making the Band' group's dissolution.

When "Making the Band" returns on February 12, fans already know two former members will be missing: AUBREY O'Day and D. Woods, who were dismissed from the group by Diddy last season. But they'll probably be surprised that SHANNON Bex isn't there either, which apparently means the end of the band.

"As of right now, [Danity Kane doesn't exist]," DAWN Richard told MTV News on Wednesday (January 28). "It's devastating for me."

"You'll see me and DREA [AUNDREA Fimbres] try and pick up the pieces on our own [on this season's show] — pieces that we didn't even make," she continued. "We didn't even break it and we're trying to sweep it up ourselves. Puff invited all the girls to come back on this season and they chose not to. Only two of us showed up. That's fine if that's the choice.

"It changes [our situation] completely," she said. "We have fans out there who love Danity Kane. We love Danity Kane. It's hard. We're sitting here trying to make sense of it now. It's hard. We're put in this position that we didn't ask to be in and we're being told to fix it."

Richard said that Bex apparently made the decision not to show up for the season on her own.

"I don't know why [Bex left]. I think she's just happy. I don't want to even try to answer it 'cause that's not fair to her. I haven't [spoken to her] but I heard she's doing well with her husband and she got a house. I love her, but I don't know."

Bex was coy about the issue in an interview published earlier this week.

Richard admitted that she was as surprised as anyone that she and DREA were the only members on the set. "We are the only two that showed up," she said. "The thing about it ... I thought we were all going to come back and talk, or maybe if AUBREY didn't come back, 'cause I don't know how Puff was feeling about that, if the four of us got together. I didn't know what to expect. I just know I got off the plane and found out I was the only one there and DREA came the next day."

And although Fimbres and Richard were both present for the taping of the show, it seems that Richard spent a lot of her time hanging out with fellow "MTB" castmates Day 26 trying to make the best of the situation.

"I was there every day, on my own. Sometimes DREA was there, sometimes she wasn't, 'cause she had to go fix some stuff at home," she said. "So it was me and six guys, which is great 'cause I'm a guy girl! It was fun. [But] it was very hard not knowing what the next step was going to be."

One thing that Richard is certain of is her disbelief at everything that's happened with Danity Kane in the last few months, which not only included the two dismissals but also news about AUBREY O'Day's sexuality and her forthcoming Playboy spread.

"I'm still surprised at it all. I'm still trying to recover from the first fire," she said. "So I'm still confused. I still don't know. I'm just being so honest. I have no idea."

A spokesperson for Diddy and Danity Kane's rep at Atlantic Records had no comment.

MTV News will have lots more from our interview with DAWN Richard in the coming days.

Viewers can see everything unfold on the next season of "Making the Band," which premieres on February 12.

28/01/09 Shannon Bex Dishes On Group's Future (MTV)

Danity Kane's Shannon Bex Dishes On Group's Future, 'Making The Band'
'They're still my girls,' Bex says of dismissed DK members AUBREY O'Day and D. Woods.

When "Making the Band 4" ended its third season last October, Danity Kane was down two members. Diddy kicked out D. Woods and the spotlight-loving AUBREY O'Day. So when the fourth season debuts next month, it begs the question: Will O'Day and Woods make appearances on the show?

"Well, I can't spill anything," SHANNON Bex told PIX 11 News in New York City. "You guys got to watch the season."

Bex did say that just because O'Day and Woods are out of the group doesn't mean they're forgotten. "I just talked to D. Woods yesterday, actually," she said.

And Bex still hasn't recovered from the shock of loosing the girls last October. "Honestly, that day when we came for that meeting, that's how it happened. It was right there," she said. "I mean, I've always said I was a little shell-shocked. I love my girls, and I want people to know there's a camaraderie there. I hope people are fans. ... Those good times were good times, and they're still my girls."

Now that O'Day and Woods are out of the group, they've each confirmed working on solo projects. But does Bex have any plans to go solo?

"Our whole Danity Kane career, people have been asking us that," she said. "We always say, 'Whatever's meant to be will be.' We want to be the Rat Pack — doing everything."

But there is one unusual passion that Bex would like to pursue when she finds the time. "Something I would love to be a part of is 'Extreme Home Makeover,' " she said. "I just bought a house [in Oregon], and I'm, like, doing the remodeling."

28/01/09 D. Woods Gone Solo With 'Independence' Album & Mixtape

Former Danity Kane star D. Woods says she's not stressing Diddy's decision to cut her from the Platinum-selling group last fall.

"I've been in the studio working on a lot of new music," D. Woods told SOHH recently.

Much like her ousted Danity Kane friend AUBREY O'Day, D. Woods says fans will hear new music from her this year, the first of which will be a mixtape series.

Admitting that she's been working on several projects since October, including a mixtape series titled "Independence Day," Wood says "the first will drop in February".

While in Danity Kane, D. Woods helped the group reach Platinum-certification in 2006 with their self debut and gold-status with 'Welcome to the Dollhouse', their 2008 sophomore release.

D. Woods' first single is expected to drop soon
